Wealth8’s New Funds - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is an ETF?

An ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) is a basket of investments, such as stocks or bonds, that you can buy or sell on a stock exchange just like a regular share. ETFs often track a specific market index or theme and offer a simple way to invest in a diversified group of companies.

2. What is an ETC?

An ETC (Exchange-Traded Commodity) is similar to an ETF but is instead designed to track the price of a commodity, like gold, rather than a group of stocks or bonds. ETCs make it easier to invest in physical assets without actually owning and storing them yourself.

🌐 Digital-Themed ETFs 🌐

3. Which digital-themed ETFs are now available on Wealth8?

Here are the new funds you’ll find:

  • iShares Digitalisation UCITS ETF — focuses on companies driving the digital economy, such as e-commerce and cloud computing firms.

  • iShares Automation & Robotics UCITS ETF — targets businesses involved in robotics, artificial intelligence, and smart manufacturing.

  • iShares Digital Security UCITS ETF — invests in global leaders in cybersecurity and digital protection.

  • iShares Blockchain Technology UCITS ETF — offers exposure to companies adopting and developing blockchain solutions.

4. How are these digital funds different from each other?

Each ETF has a unique focus:

  • Digitalisation covers broad digital trends like online shopping, streaming, and cloud tech.

  • Automation & Robotics zeroes in on companies building or using robots and AI.

  • Digital Security focuses on cybersecurity and protecting digital infrastructure.

  • Blockchain Technology highlights firms working with blockchain systems (beyond just cryptocurrency).

🪙 Physical Gold ETC 🪙

5. What is the iShares Physical Gold ETC?

The iShares Physical Gold ETC is a fund that gives you exposure to the market price of gold. It is backed by physical gold held in secure vaults. This means when you invest in the ETC, your money is linked to real gold, without needing to buy and store gold bars or coins yourself.

6. Why do people invest in gold?

Gold has long been seen as a key asset:

  • Protect against inflation (when prices rise)

  • Diversify a portfolio

  • Act as a "safe haven" during times of market uncertainty

Gold often behaves differently from stocks and bonds, which is why some investors choose to include it as part of a balanced investment strategy.

7. Is investing in gold risky?

Like any investment, gold carries risks. Its price can go up and down based on market conditions. While gold is often seen as stable during crises, it doesn’t generate income like stocks or bonds. It’s important to consider your own financial goals and risk tolerance before investing.

💡 General Questions 💡

8. Are these funds high risk?

Themed funds like digital ETFs and gold ETCs carry risks and can be more volatile than broader, more diversified funds. Always consider your personal circumstances and risk tolerance. The Automation & Robotics, Blockchain, Digitalisation, and Digital Securities ETFs all fall under our Adventurous category, while the Gold ETC is categorised as a Balanced risk.

Wealth8 does not provide financial advice, so if you are unsure of your situation, please consult an independent financial adviser.

9. Can I invest small amounts?

Yes, both ETFs and ETCs are designed to be accessible, and Wealth8 lets you get started with as little as an £8 investment!

10. Do these funds pay dividends?

These ETFs are all accumulating, meaning they automatically reinvest dividends. Gold ETCs usually do not pay dividends because gold doesn’t produce income, its return comes from price changes. You can check each fund’s fact sheet for details.

11. How do I learn more about each fund?

More info on individual fund is available on its respective page in-app. There you’ll be able to find a Fund Factsheet, and Key Investor Information, both made available by the fund provider (BlackRock). These documents along with additional information are available on each fund’s page on the iShares website.
